Does Anxiety Define your Personality?

If you’re reading this article, you’re probably looking for a solution to your anxiety problems. If so, there’s a good chance that you’ve been living with anxiety disorder for some time, isn’t that right? Well, I would like to invite you to ponder on a simple question: does anxiety define your personality? In other words, does your anxiety run so deep and far that it’s become a major personality trait? You might be surprised to know that for most people suffering for this kind a disorder, the answer is admittedly yes. And once you realize that, you can use this perception as a motivation to help you and overcome your problems.

Living with such a complex and pervasive condition as anxiety disorders is extremely challenging and confusing. The very nature of this kind of psychological condition works in a way that it will invariably define the patient’s personality, after a while. However, characters change and adapt and just as your personality has changed on account of you having anxiety, so can you make the choice to model your personality in a way that will help you overcome this disorder. To begin with, you should understand that while anxiety has become a big part of what you are, it’s not the whole of it, and it never will be. As deeply as you may suffer from anxiety, you are not anxiety in itself- and so you can learn how to extricate the condition from who you are.

Make no confusion, though: regardless of your resolve, there isn’t a switch that you can just turn inside your head to eradicate anxiety and suddenly rid your personality of its influence. There are no magic tricks or shortcuts that will somehow help you overcome your problems in a short time span. There are however, specific choices that you can make, that will address the underlying causes of anxiety. There are indeed a complex variety of switches (so to speak) that you can locate and turn off, that will gradually reduce the power and influence that anxiety holds over your personality. And once you understand how the process works, then you will start seeing consistent results.

Even though your personality may be defined by anxiety at this stage in life, you can choose otherwise. You can choose to adapt your worldviews in a way that will gradually vanquish anxiety, once you can get into the appropriate mindset. Having done so, you will find that your lifestyle will change naturally in a way that will make you a more relaxed and easy-going person. Within less than a year, you may feel as though you’ve made huge progress, until you feel like a completely new person. It’s entirely up to you now, whether you’re ready for a change- or if you’re happy with more of the same. Just remember: you have anxiety perhaps, but you are not anxiety in itself.
