Scientific Proof that Exercise Reduces Anxiety

by James

Just a couple days ago there was a document published describing how The University of Georgia did a study on how exercise routine affects people suffering with anxiety. They analyzed almost 3000 people, so their results are definitely significant.

What they found is that if you exercise regularly you are guaranteed to reduce your anxiety symptoms. They discovered that you can reduce your anxiety by up to 30%! Now that may not sound much, but if you exercise for long periods of time regularly, then clearly this can have tremendous impact.

Their conclusion was that if you don’t want to take medicine for anxiety (who does?!) and are typically more inactive as far as exercising goes, then regular exercise, of at least 30 minutes is extremely beneficial. They also noted, and it seems common sense, that it’s one of those things that has virtually no side effects. The biggest impact was on people who exercised regularly for at least 12 weeks.

It seems that you should exercise for at least 30 minutes, but less than that was recognized as beneficial too.

You can read the full, dry scientific text here: internal medicine.

So, are you exercising regularly?
